The Central Lancashire councils of Chorley, Preston and South Ribble have become the first councils in Lancashire to look at introducing a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

A Draft Charging Schedule has been prepared and is being consulted upon until the 30th of March 2012.

The main subject of this consultation is the proposed key levy charging rates see the table below.

Development Type CIL Charge £ per square metre
Residential (dwellings) £70
Convenience Retail £160
Retail Warehouse £40
Non-residential Institutional uses 0
All other uses 0-£10*

 * views are being sought on charge rates for other uses

For more details on the workings of CIL read the Kirkwells’ guide to CIL.

As well as the charging rates the consultation also seeks views on a number of other issues relating to CIL: exemptions; reliefs; payments in kind; payment of CIL in instalments; and justification for introducing a CIL.
