Reports the Daily Telegraph.

Based on a survey of builders and surveyors carried out for LV=home insurance many homeowners are making alterations without seeking the correct approvals and consents.

This can be costly. Your local planning authority can use their enforcement powers – making you make necessary alterations, including taking down completed work, and, in some cases, leaving you with large legal costs and a hefty fine.

As the Telegraph concludes this can leave you “considerably out of pocket”.

Look at the extremes some will go to.

Don’t let this happen to you.
