Reform of town and village greens registration system
The Department Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) has launched a consultation on proposals for reforming the registration system for town and village greens. The proposals in the consultation will not prevent the protection of any existing registered greens. Any changes to the registration system will not bring the designation of new greens to an end. The law relating to greens is complex and there is concern that some registration applications are used to hinder legitimate development. Once a green is registered it cannot be developed, irrespective of any planning permission or allocation in a local plan. The London Plan the overall strategic plan for London has been published. It sets out a fully integrated economic, environmental, transport and social framework for the development of the capital to 2031. It forms part of the development plan for Greater London. Small businesses and Planning
The Federation of Small Businesses has published a report on Small Businesses and Planning. Based on a survey of FSB members the report seeks a planning system that reduces barriers for small businesses, and allows them a greater say in local planning. The reports key recommendations are: For Government to work closely with small businesses to ensure the measures introduced in the new planning system properly address the planning barriers small businesses face. Provide greater clarity on the role of Local Economic Partnerships (LEPs), and ensure small businesses are properly represented on LEPs. Government welcomes new action plan on Self Build
Housing Minister, Grant Shapps, has welcomed the Action Plan of the National Self Build Association (NaSBA), and other industry experts. Design Council CABE: more support for neighbourhood planning
Design Council CABE have announced a new grant programme: Neighbourhood Project Small Grant Programme. This programme will provide design expertise and support by providing grants to not-for-profit organisations. The grants of up to £7,000 aim to: Improve design quality by providing support to neighbourhood projects (relating to the emerging planning system); Explore new ways of working between Design Council CABE and organisations that support local groups or projects; and Share learning on the best ways to deliver local design support.
