Birmingham Consults on Development Plan Options

To plan for Birmingham’s growing population the city council have kick started consultations on a new development plan. Any one interested in the future of Birmingham now has until the 14th of January 2013 to comment on development options for the future of the city. The City Council calculates there will be a shortfall in housing land of some 30,000 units if only urban sites are considered. The City Council are also looking to increase employment land supply. As a result the option of developing land currently designated as Green Belt is being considered. The areas being considered are shown below. Cannock Chase Consults on Local Plan

Combining the Core Strategy, and Rugeley Town Centre Area Action Plan, Cannock Chase Council is consulting, up until the 17th of September 2012, on a new Local Plan. The basic strategy in the plan is to focus  development across the existing settlements of Cannock, Hednesford, Heath Hayes, Norton Canes, Rugeley, and Brereton. Cannock, Hednesford and Hayes will see 1,550 houses on urban sites and 750 homes as an urban extension on a strategic site west of Pye Green Road. and an initial 58 ha of employment land with more at Kingswood Lakeside, if required. Rugeley and Brereton will see 680 houses on urban sites. Barnsley Sites and Town Centre Consultations

Barnsley Council are consulting on two key documents that will form part of the town’s Local Development Framework. Development Sites and Places – identifies land for housing, employment and other uses. This document also sets out the Council’s planning policies for development management; Barnsley Town Centre Area Action Plan – sets out the vision for Barnsley town centre and identifies future development sites. Up to date local plans set the future planning framework. Sites identified now in Development Sites and Places and the Barnsley Town Centre Area Action Plan will stand a far greater chance of development than sites not identified in these plans.
